Fate
You never take for granted something you know you’re not supposed to have.
"Of all forms of caution, caution in love is perhaps the most fatal to true happiness."
A Transcendental Love
Priya always thought the sun was hot – until she met Chris. His presence not only seemed to cool the biting summer heat, but made the two hands of Priya’s slightly ornate watch move just a bit slower than normal. Now, when her usual outfit of constant, nagging warmth and her curiously fast-crawling second hand found themselves in different company, she was able to focus on the finer, much simpler things in not only her herself, but Chris too.
Chris, just like Priya, had brown eyes. His teeth were straight, and just white enough for her to notice their true resplendency. When she held his hand she could feel the leather-like texture of his skin; a comfortable welcome for a girl like Priya. He was not a man of many words, nor a man of too little, though. He spoke when he was spoken to, or either when giving a compliment that only the most acute observer could have found pleasure in. Even on the most penitent of days he could always make Priya smile.
But Chris was moving. Not to another city, not to another state, but to a different place. Chris was going to Heaven.
The white, wrinkled sheets that rippled to just above his waist were crisp – almost as crisp as the ascent he was soon destined to make. As his final breaths were enjoyed, but ultimately exhausted, all but one part of him had cooled – the leathery palm that Priya refused to let go. That heat, of course, belonged to love.
Reliance
I glorify God by using the things He gave me and doing the best I can, even though it might not work out all the time.
